PCOS affects up to 25% of UK women - are you one of them?

Many of our clients suffer from the "hidden illness" of polycystic ovary syndrome. Symptoms include excessive hair growth, weight gain, acne and skin problems, infertility, fatigue and pain.

What is IPL?

Body & Sole's IPL treatment is effective in removing hair from every body part: face, back, legs, arms, underarms and even the most sensitive and private areas such as the bikini line, nipples and chest.

Lasers and Intense Pulsed Light systems offer a safe, long-term solution to unwanted, excess hair for both men and women. Treatment is suitable for the face and body, is quick and results can be seen after just a few sessions. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) utilizes light wave application. It has numerous wavelengths and is gentle and safe. You need not be wary of exposure to something that would affect the effectiveness of the treatment such as sunlight or excessive heat.

IPL treatment is effective in removing hair from every body part: face, back, legs, arms, underarms and even the most sensitive and private areas such as the bikini line, nipples and chest. The hand piece used is cool, to soothe and glide along the skin. 

How does light assisted hair removal work?

Light is selectively absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy heats the pigment and effectively destroys the hair follicle wothout damaging surrounding cells.

How is treatment carried out?

The laser or Intense Pulsed Light is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, which targets many follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. For intense Pulsed Light treatment a thin layer of chilled gel is applied to help guide the light.

Am l suitable for treatment?

Most people are suitable for treatment. Best results are often achieved with clients who have fair skin and dark hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has a high concentration of melanin. Fair hair however, contains less melanin and is harder to treat. Grey/white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment.

How does the treatment feel?

Treatment sensation varies but is often described as "flick of an elastic band". Typically no anaesthesia is required and most clients describe the discomfort as moderate and tolerable.

What will l see after the treatment?

The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The dead hairs shed after 1-3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to 'grow' as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.

Are there any side effects?

The skin may be red immediateky after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours. Adverse reactions are rare buy may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

How many treatments are necessary?

Only hair that is actively growing is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 4-8 weeks, depending on the area treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The required number of treatments varies, but typically 6 or more treatments are needed for optimum results.

Consultation Procedure

Prior to treatment, a consultation is conducted in which a medical history is taken to confirm suitability for treatment, there is also an opportunity for any questions you may have to be answered. Before treatment commences you must provide written consent and a small patch test will be carried out.

PCOS

We have many customers who have achieved fantastic results with IPL, especially those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a side effect of which is often excess unwanted hair growth. PCOS Awareness Week runs from 5-12th November this year and Body & Sole will be actively taking part in events, seminars and help to support this.

Body & Sole 10th Anniversary 9/6/2011

Body & Sole will have been open for 10 years on Thursday 9th June 2011, l can't quite believe it has gone by as quick as it has! It has taken 10 years to make Body & Sole what it is today and we really are proud to reach this milestone! We are now fully operational with IPL - Hair Removal treatments. It has taken a little longer than we anticipated to get everything set up but now we're raring to go! Both Emma and I are ready to take bookings for consultations to disusss IPL - Hair Removal with anyone that's interested and if suitable to go ahead with the treatment and patch tests. We've been busy getting our price list ready and updating our website so please visit our IPL page and read more about it.

We are holding an IPL Information Evening on Tuesday 22nd Febuary at the salon from 4pm–8pm as we appreciate that people want to find out exactly what IPL - Hair Removal is and how it may work for you. In December 2009 we introduced the Jane Iredale Mineral Make-up range, which has been very successful in the salon and well received by our clients. With several major projects such as the rebranding of the salon, a new website and our email newsletter system now complete, I am able to offer my bridal make-up services once again. This year, we are going to upgrade our tester stand for Jane Iredale Make-up and bring in the rest of the range. It will take pride of place in the reception area, so look out for it next time you visit!
